Insitu Machining of Sulzer Z 40/48 Crankshaft Repair on Vessel

A Sulzer main engine Sulzer Z 40/48 aboard a container vessel suffered major crankshaft damage as a result of Governor failure, which also damaged the crankpins. Our technicians inspected the Sulzer crankshaft and noted the main observations. After removing the connecting rod from all six crankpins, the crankpin bearings were discovered to be severely damaged. There were deep scoring marks and localized damage on the crankpin. Our experienced technicians repaired the crankshaft successfully within the tolerance limits specified in the manual and then reinstalled the crankshaft to full load capacity.
